Only 4 of the 30 AAA teams are named after their major league affiliate (Red Sox, Braves, Cubs, Padres).

"Alan Ledford, president of the MountainStar Sports Group, said there will be a contest to allow El Pasoans input on the name for the new team."

As a start, these names were suggested in the comments of an El Paso Times article:

Chucos
Tacos
Vaqueros, Matadors, Cowboys
Chupacabras
Marshals, Sheriffs, Posse, Rangers, Cavalry
Sun Devils, Sun Warriors, Sun Blazers, Sun....(something else)
Dirt Devils
Bandits, Outlaws
Lonestars

El Paso Sun Kings
El Paso Generals, Captains, Cannons, Bombers
El Paso Rattlers, Vipers
El Paso Desert Warriors
El Paso Wildcats, Bobcats, Lynx
El Paso Saints, Padres, Friars, Cardinals, Bishops
El Paso Toros
El Paso Riverhawks, Rio Raiders, (Or something else with River, Rio in the name)
El Paso Sandstorm

I also really like a lot of the names already listed above. I would like Bandits, Outlaws, Marshals and names like that, that can relate to our old wild west days. We also have Ft. Bliss and can have a team name that closely relates to that. The names like Heat, and other sun, heat, desert themed names would also be really cool. Then again we also have a lot history that can be associated with Padres (San Diego) and Missions (San Antonio, Padres Double-A affiliate), so something along those lines can also be used.

My suggestions would be:

El Paso Thunderbirds
El Paso Stallions
El Paso Troopers
El Paso Firebirds
El Paso Mavericks

I wouldn't mind if they just kept "Padres" as the name ore even go as the Sun Kings which was the Diablos' original name in the early days.

Whatever it is it must be convertible into a good mascot.

El Paso Chaparrals
El Paso Sidewinders
El Paso Lost Padres

Ok the last one is a joke. I like Conquistadors, however like the old ABA team found out that name is heck to fit on a uniform. If you call the team that expect to refer to them as the Q's most of the time.

I like Chucos, also Tacos because it will **** off mexicans all over the country hahaha and put us on the spot light. But yeah Chucos or Pachucos are cool because they part of not only El Paso history but of all Chicano history. Also it will be awesome to see the mascot in a badass Zoot Suit.
