Wilberry has been tossing this word around so I thought I would post what it means..
Nepotismis the showing of favoritism toward relatives, based upon that relationship, rather than on an objective evaluation of ability or suitability. For instance, offering employment to a relative, despite the fact that there are others who are better qualified and willing to perform the job, would be considered nepotism. The word nepotism is from the Latin word 'nepos', meaning "nephew" or "grandchild".
Yeah the whole Xeriscaping everything here is starting to get old.. first they do it to our Veterans in the cemetery, and now every place else. Have you been to a public park recently.. they look green, but are full of weeds, and stickers. And there has been a rise in tagging all over the city. Now they have these city employees that drive around and give people tickets for the grass being to high, or the car parked in the yard etc. And the idea of a tree here now is a Palm Tree, ok they are nice, but they really don't provide any shade.
I dont know.. maybe thats why I am looking at moving in a years time. Either to Galveston TX, or Seattle WA, most likely Galveston TX.

Yes -- tagging used to be less in some parts of town -- but it's gotten really bad lately. People used to paint over tagged walls right away -- but it looks like everyone is giving up -- just accepting that their fences, telephone poles, sides of houses and of course businesses will be graffitti-filled.
That will certainly hurt this city's image as a good city for retirees. And property crime -- the rising incidence carjackings and acts of vandalism -- and it seems not much is being done but that will hurt this city's chances to grow into something worthwhile more than not having a separate county hospital for children would. Even though the murder rate is still pretty low -- it's hard to convince people when they see the graffitti and see their car is missing that it's great here.
Eh? Where's all this grafitti and acts of carjacking? Aside from those 2 women from chihuahua that got jacked the other day in south el paso, I haven't heard about carjacking in a while. Every once in a while I see a little bit of graffiti here and there, but that's usally painted over within a few days. Haven't seen any in my neighborhood in a while..
Just because you choose to live with your eyes shut Holmes does not mean its not happening..
Oh and the statement its covered up with in a few days.. means it is ok with you that these punk kids vandalize, as long as its covered up with in a few days.. do you know what it cost to cover it up over and over? Nice real nice.. this is the attitude of El Paso right there. Sad really sad.

I don't know about living with my eyes shut. Maybe it's just the areas I frequent? Westside, upper valley, downtown area. The first two have a certain higher class stigma attached to them, so maybe that's why I'm wearing rose colored glasses? I see what I see and it ain't that bad. I also don't tolerate vandalism. But sometimes kids can be punks and do things like tag walls for no good reason. Trust me if I caught some of these punks in the act I'd report them to the cops right then and there. However, often times they do it in the dead of night with no one around. The damage is already done, so what can you do? I call the graffiti hotline as soon as I see anything like that in my neighborhood. Within a few days the graffiti is gone and its free. I don't understand why more people don't take advantage of this service from the city. Of course, it only works if people care to call the cops for consistent frequent tagging to get more patrolling, or the graffiti removal crew for the infrequent ones.
Thats good you don't tolerate Vandalism. Also happy to hear you use the hotline. But don't think its free, just because it don't cost you anything when they come out and remove it, does not mean its free. Someone has to endure the cost... and most of the time its though our higher taxes. As for what you can do.. seems you do what you can already. Good For you.
Don't let that higher stigma of the West Side fool you. Bored Rich kids do some stupid stuff too. I don't go Downtown much, and I don't go to the upper valley much anymore since we sold our property in Santa Teresa... sure miss that area though, its so green and like a different place... used to take English horse riding lessons out there as a kid. Riding a horse along the Rio Grade is awesome!
Yep, I love the upper valley too. I always would go for walks along the river when I was a kid. Back then the bosque near my parents house was full of big old cottonwoods and swampland. I'd love to see wildlife like all the birds, racoons, coyotes, bobcats even. Development of that neighborhood has pushed that back a bit. A shame, we really should fight to preserve as much of the natural river environment that we can. Our neighbor had a nice little ranch next to us and she'd let me ride her horses and feed the ducks in here backyard pond. Ah good times.

There were two very recent incidents of carjackings on the West Side -- one at the Golden Corral restaurant, one across from Sunland Park mall -- that linen and sheets store. Both victims were injured.

Also look at the recent incidents of rocks being thrown to damage property, and mail boxes being damaged by clubs, and back windows of cars being shattered with baseball bats and rocks -- just for the fun of destroying property.
Maybe you're becoming immune to the graffiti -- it's pretty bad all over town, just about ever park, and you mentioned the Upper Valley -- have you taken a drive around recently? Check the telephone poles, horse corrals even -- the graffiti is now even on that.
I'm gonna go out this next week with my camera and take pictures of the N.E. East, and West sides of town and document the graffiti. And post the pictures here for you to see. I welcome anyone else here to do the same.. would be interesting to see who has the most.
