Thats true.. I do feel rather safe. But then again I am 6 foot 2 and 300 pounds.. have law enforcement training, and that may lend to my feeling of safe. But at the same time, I fear my wife going out alone at night, my kids being out after dark, or just walking home from school.. because I know El Paso has a real bad sexual predator problem here.

With the recent carjackings, I have to admit I don't feel as safe driving a 4x4 big truck as I do driving a small car that no one really wants. I definitely feel safer when I'm out of this area with that truck. I don't even feel my truck is safe sitting in it's own driveway.

i feel pretty safe, i do always have an eye out for my kids & constantly check the websites to see if any sexual predators have moved into my area, i lived in south central el paso all my youth & even there i felt safe. I still visit mom tleast 2 times a week, & i dont think that my car is in danger of gettin stolen & she lives 4 blocks from the border by Beall Elementary.

I heard about the LAKOTA NATION also. No taxes and anybody, Sioux or not, can move there to live. This should be very interesting. They have nullified all treaties with the U.S.

Is there crime here? Of course there is, but not nearly as bad as some people think. It is generally safe here. When I go to other cities and see their newscasts I'm horrified with seeing all the murders, home invasions and all the other crime that makes their newscasts. I'm glad we don't have a lot of that stuff here.

Most people across the country think of El Paso as a crime filled city that is located next to Mexico, but its funny to see their reactions when you tell them that El Paso is the 2nd safest city in the land, and has been in the top 3 for ten years now.

El Paso Times - El Paso second safest city in country

Safe is not the same as crime free. To repeat: SAFE IS NOT THE SAME AS CRIME FREE. El Paso is a major transhipment point for narcotics coming from Mexico into the U.S. I recently pointed out this distinction to a colleague (who is from el paso) when he was telling me how "safe" el paso is, his response was, "you're probably in a safe neighborhood if you live near a drug trafficker". So, keep this fact in mind next time you hear how "safe" el paso is. I venture to say that San Jose is more crime free than el paso.

That's true. El Paso has a lot of crime, especially domestic abuse, property crime, gang warfare and the drug violence from Mexico spills over now and then -- but it's pretty safe for those not involved in any of that.

Too many people have put up iron bars on all their windows and doors to believe they really feel all that safe. Even in cities with more violent crimes you find more neighborhoods without bars and fences up everywhere.

I personally know of many people whose homes have been burglarized and who have had vehicles stolen --- very many -- and I don't think that's only in one small part of town.

Who here said that El Paso is "crime free"? To repeat: WHO HERE SAID THAT EL PASO IS CRIME FREE?

El Paso is a very safe city especially when you compare it to many other large cities in the country. Just compare the FBI statistics for yourself and you will see that our crime statistics are pretty low. That is a fact..not really an opinion. Is El Paso crime free? No way (what place is?) .. Is it safer than many other large cities in this country? Yes.

The whole border is a major drug trafficking area, not just El Paso. Most of these drugs come from Latin America, through our US border and into the neighborhoods located everywhere in the U.S.

I venture to say that both Honolulu and El Paso are safer than San Jose this year. Proof: http://cbs5.com/local/San.Jose.safest.2.591758.html (broken link)
