I have been to Furrs as a kind of buffet. its not that you can serve yourself but when its an all you can eat.... you go back to the line..... or the waitress who brought you a drink will go and get you more of what you want.

i seem to remember eating at a Furrs once in Tucson that was set up like that. i even remember eating at a Luby's that had an all you can eat saturday buffet. so... you get to eat what you like but its not set up like a buffet.

thanks for mentioning Furrs.... i had forgotten all about them. lol
i REALLY love Lubys but unless they have an all you can eat day.... i just cant afford to buy all i want to eat. lol

Furr's is a buffet. The food is out, you get up and serve yourself as many times and as much as you want. Luby's is a cafetería.

Yes... Lubys is a cafeteria but when i was in central Texas .... they had one day a week it was all you can eat.
that was saturday and now... as of last time i was there.... they stopped doing that one day a week.
so now they are back to being a cafeteria all the time again.

i am glad to hear that Furrs here is now a buffet.

Default Getting hungry...

I like Giant China Buffet, probably my fav chinese buffet in town (Lee Trevino near Bessemer). I remember liking the Lin's on Yarbrough/Gateway East better than the newer one. Not a fan of Furrs or Golden Corral. Leo's on Zaragoza/Joe Battle has a very good breakfast buffet WITH mexican sweet bread

its funny that you should mention Giant China Buffet.... i wanted steak yesterday so i was at Golden Corral right near it.
i have been wondering about that place.... i'll drop in sometime and look it over.
i did manage to visit the Grand China Buffet when i was over on the west side the other day and everything they had out looked fresh and good. i didnt eat there but the food looked very nice.

so many places to try. lol i love this town.

I can't believe some actually think Buffet food is good. To me it's the most disgusting stuff around and only serves to keep super sizing people.

It depends on the buffet, hence the thread. They certainly all aren't good. I think many people like them, not to stuff their faces endlessly as you imply, but to be able to have a varied meal, portions of different dishes in one. Not necessarily 4 different meals. There is usually plenty of left overs as people continue eating and trying other dishes. Buffets are a great place to try new things and if you dont like it, you can get something else. To each his own.

Hey Lip ! for me its about economy ! the other day i went to L and J cafe and had chili rellenos ... they give you 2 to a serving. they come with rice and beans.

that was barely enough for me.... i had to order another plate.
i walked out of there having dropped $20 PLUS dollars on nothing but chili rellenos !
and i STILL had NOT had enough to eat !

they were excellent ! but thats just insane ! i could have gone to a buffet and eaten my fill for half that price! AND ! i am NOT FAT ! i just have a BIG appetite !
some larger people like to stuff themselves but thats not me. i just want enough to eat.
maybe you would like to join me for dinner ! LOL
not all big eaters are fat !
and besides.. so what if they are ! thats not my business and i dont really care.

not all buffet food is good... but some is and thats why i am asking here.

thanks to all who have posted answers.
now if i can just find a REALLY great Mexican buffet that has GREAT chili rellenos !

thanks

Mexican food doesn't do all that well in a buffet. Some foods like Chinese do okay sitting for hours in a buffet but I think Mexican food is better prepared at the time.

There are so many Mexican restaurants with better prices than $20 for 2 chile rellenos. Try some of the other ones, you can get big combo plates for $6 that have more than enough food.
