That's not bad I've heard stories if it being high like 300/400 a month. Any advice on good schedules or anything to save money and such. The climate will be new to us and we are not sure what to expect with AC/HEAT. LOL

it depends on what kind of air conditioning, and what condition/how new the apartment is.

In my 850 sf all-electric older apartment, I paid, on average $100 a month with refrigerated air. Higher in the summer, of course, but it average out.

In my 1500 sf house, I still pay about that much for gas + electric, refrigerated air. But I'm only one person.

I don't know where you heard $300-$400 a month, but nobody I know pays that much with a modest sized home and regular usage. McMansions with 5 kids, maybe.

I have an older home with refrigerated air and the most my electricity bill has been was about $210. My house is about 2400 sq. ft.
If you can get an apartment with refrigerated air it is worth the extra money.

One probably should note people here say "refrigerated air" because most older homes and apartments have evaporative coolers (until 20-25 years ago, true air conditioning was practically a sign of extravagance in El Paso). You should probably inquire what kind of unit an apartment or rental has. Evaporative cooling seems to be out of favor - some swear it is due to increasing summer humidity in El Paso - I think people are also less tolerant of the erratic nature of evaporative coolers - you do not get a constant temperature with them and they can be hard to maintain. The also use a lot of water while saving electricity.
