I do not know much about the company ADP, but 1000 new jobs should not hurt the local economy...

ADP plans to add 1,100 jobs in El Paso by 2020 - El Paso Times

ADP used to be called Automatic Data Processing. They handle payroll-related functions for businesses. They also provide computer-based inventory and accounting services to motor vehicle dealers.

At least they're not a call center.

They are a call center. The place and receive calls relating to payroll functions. I know several people that work there. It's not as "call centery" as others, but still a call center.

I stand corrected. I should have said at least they're not a telemarketing boileroom.

Good for ADP. Although I wonder if growth in EP ADP facilities is at the cost of other ADP facilities downsizing or closing? Average salary according to OPs article is 35K/year which is livable in EP but elsewhere it is living paycheck to paycheck. Is EP being used as a last resort before outsourcing overseas or even to our southern neighbor?

Who cares if its at the cost of other facilities? I don't think too many people here care about a business closing in Omaha, Nebraska. It's good for El Paso, even if its at another cities expense.

Times have changed since El Paso was "The Jeans Capital of The World"

The City Magazine | El Paso’s History: The Denim Days
"Some of the biggest names in denim were Sun City sewn: Levi’s, Guess, Gap, Calvin Klein, Banana Republic, JouJou, Jordache and Wrangler. At its height in 1993, it was a billion dollar industry employing around 21,000 people in the city.

But due to competitive foreign competition and the North American Free Trade Agreement, the industry has left behind nothing but old, abandoned or sincerepurposed factory buildings, more than a pocketful of memories and a few successful business people within the city limits."
