So maybe EP will see more benefits in the future with Bliss expansion than just troops coming in with their paychecks as others in the past alluded to.
Good news for a great city. I hope El Paso gets these jobs, and more. El Paso is an attractive city; mountains, low humidity, mild Winters, and most of all GOOD PEOPLE.

Reading Rosie's post reminds me of the damage that was done to Fort Bliss National Cemetary. Both my mom and dad are buried there and much damage was done. I just recently heard of this, as I now live in the mid -west.

I tried to attach the URL for the You Tube video titled Fort Bliss National Cemetary Disgrace, but could not do so. You can still find it though if you look.

Its a travesty what they have done to that place.. service men/women and their spouses should be buried in fields of green.. not fields of dirt. Its looks so disrespectful. I find it to be utterly ugly.

I recall as a young boy, my mom would take me in the El Paso City lines bus once a month to visit my dad's grave. I can still see the beautiful green grass blades moving in the wind. It was such a beautiful place. Yes, it is now a disgrace. I had no idea untl last night what had become of this once well manicured place where our heros and loved ones are laid to rest.

I just saw some Sept 2007 pictures of the damage here:
Current Conditions: Fort Bliss National Cemetery - el paso daily ...

If the cemetery was damaged in the flood, it seems like enough time has passed that it should be repaired. And why would anyone remove grass?

The federal government should do something about this disrespectfull treatment of those graves.

Default Fort Bliss National Cemetary.

It really bothers me know to know that my parents and the others laid to rest there are surrounded by such deplorable conditions. I wish I wasn't in Omaha. I intend to write to some area and state Texas officials to voice my concern though. As a veteran myself I am deeply ashamed and angry.

I totally agree peggy. Our veterans, especially those who gave their lives, should be cherished beyond measure.

Update: I visited that website. This is horrible. How can our government pass so much pork in our bills to establish foundations that are meaningless, and allow a Federal grave site be desecrated so? !!

You know SYN, why don't the major news networks talk about that? Why don't they tell the rest of the world what a shame this cemetery has become. How they dishonor the memories of these brave men and women. How they can not afford to give they fields of green, in honor of the selfless service they gave to our country. We have water for parks grass, but not for our fallen soldiers grave site? I get angry every time I think about it. I have family there, and it pains me to see them disrespected this way.
