I visited the National Cemetary today and found it in much better shape than 9 months ago. After touring the grounds, I found that xerriscapes for the winter will be dull and brown but overall they have done what they said they would.

Thy used the Phoenix National Cemetary as the model. The only problem, it does not freeze there in the winter. So all the flowers are in bloom year around.

It is important they add as much green as possible to balance the winter scape. They should also consider adding some flowering trees for the spring season and as much bird of paradise for the summer.

I have accepted the fact we have chate instead of grass but I know the National Cemetary could make this a beautiful place with some additional amenities. I plan to pursue this with the Director and if I don't get anywhere with his/her help, than I will contact our Congressman.

I have my Dad, four uncles and two aunts buried there and that will the resting place for my Mom. We all need to pressure the government to make sure this is done as well as possible.

It is the right thing to do for those who served and for those who supported them. I hope everyone can help in this endeavor.

I am going to write a letter to my two OK senators and to my congressional representative about this. E mails are good and can be effective if they get many of them, but I think a letter has more impact because they have to actually do something with it.

If you don't live in Texas, and you agree the cemetery should be a place of respect, contact your senators and representatives and let them know what you think!

I would love to see some current pictures too.

The military cemetery can put in turf grass and other plant species like flowers and shrubbery that don't require a lot of water. It doesn't have to be bare ground that looks tacky and gets picked up by the wind and blown into the faces of visitors.

I Agree. Humm wonder if we can get a petition together and start some sort of action to have turf grass in the cemetery?

You know....all my family in the South and Southerners in general like to boast about how they are pro America and lots of Patriotism etc...but im really impressed with peopkle from Oklahoma and the Plains states as they also seem very pro America and it shows in your postings Peggy D.

P.S. I know this is Texas and not Oklahoma but Peggy i always like seeing the photos you take of Oklahoma as that taught me alot about how it looks out there over on their threads. Anyway great job !!
