el borracho....thanks for the links. I didn't know there was a rebate program available, good info. Our main TV is a 32" CRT we bought in 2000 (yeah, I know, ancient) and it's on Directv. If I'm reading this right, I shouldn't need a converter box for it, correct?
We have a spare TV in the bedroom that is on rabbit ears. It was manufactured in 1992, but has a digital tuner. I'm still unsure if it will work or not after 2-9-09.
Guess we could just buy new sets.....maybe it's because I grew up poor, but I hate to replace anything until I have to. We've got a lot of old stuff.

if you have cable or sat you should be ok the providers will convert the signal and it should work as long as you have cable or sat, the tv with the rabbit ears may or may not work it all depends on the model and how old it is 1992 is ancient ck your owners manual there are also some stations that dont have to go to digital one of the web sites explains this i think ill check , the stations that dont have to go digital are low power stations im not sure if there are any low power stations in the area so for those you will still need an antenna

el borracho
It's good to know that I don't have to replace my tv's. I still have 2 "bulky" tv's- Sony and Philips and I'd hate to replace it since they're working just fine. So, I don't really have to worry abt. the tv's not being HD since I have DirectTV anyway. Nice to have this info! Thanks a lot!
