When metropolitan *area* is considered, meaning the outlaying areas of suburbs are included then El Paso is average. Also it's not just crime numbers -- it's who are the crime victimes. Any time there's a serial killer killing people at random, or where people are mugged and killed by total strangers people will feel far less safe than when most murders are domestic killings or gang killings -- that's another reason people feel relatively safe here.
But we've already had 2 homicides -- that's not super-safe.

Well, maybe someoone should bottle that water and sell it. I could think of a few cities who could use it.

I find El Paso has the feel of a much smaller city, say 100K-200K population. Safety wise, it feels like a suburb in a lot of areas.

I think what some people wonder about is why Juarez is so dangerous and El Paso right next door is relatively safe. They've had 30 homicides already this year in Ciudad Juarez compared with 2 for El Paso.

First, slow down.. relax. El Paso is on medium speed, and your on high velocity.
Ok I think the North East would be best for you.. or the East side near the Air Port.=, since you want to be lose to Post. Cielo Vista Apartments have great Military rates and are real close to shopping, Fort Bliss, and is easy to get around from there.
Here is a Link to Apartment Listing in El Paso.. You'll See Them in the list.
Apartments El Paso - EveryAptMapped - El Paso Apartment Search
Another great Place in on Trans-Mountain called the Patriots Apartments.. Or Butterfield Trail just down the road a ways.. you'll find great places to live.
Have any more questions, let me know.

Safe?
When I think of EPT, the town that I was born and raised in, for some reason the term "safe" just doesn't come to mind. Possibly I am biased because I grew up with a bunch of hoodlums and regretfully caused my fair share of trouble in my younger years.
Speaking equally, anywhere you go has both pros and cons, advantages and disadvantages, good and bad parts of town. I do have family employed with the EPPD and though crime rates are down, for some reason I just don't think of the word "safe" when I think of home. When I think of safe, I think of somewhere far away from the barrios, far away from the cheapest drugs in the country, far away from territorial gang activity, and far away from the borderland. Maybe Delaware, Connecticut, Maine, or North Dakota says "safe" to me--I don't think of El Paso.

Yep, in most big cities those hanging with hoodlums (which exist in all big cities in relatively high numbers) and looking to cause trouble (realizing of course that was when you were younger...hey, we all made mistakes in our youth) will shape how people would view items like safety. I think it is honorable for you to admit that.

Believe you me, all of these states have cities/areas with significant crime where one would feel a lack of safety.
Outside of more rural, smaller towns and suburbs, typically any big city (and many not-so-big ones) through the entire US have crime, a lack of safety.
I have been places in CT that were seriously very unsafe.
Just like El Paso or any other place...parts are very safe / crime-free relatively and parts are tougher.

I have posed this question to many of my friends / acquaintances who live in El Paso.
The biggest (and most logical) theory I have heard is from one fellow who's lived in El Paso since the early '90s. He felt that since crime is so common in Juarez, and obviously authorities are not nearly as diligent and on the up-and-up in Juarez as they are in El Paso, Juarez almost suctions or vacuums those who would do crime from El Paso into Juarez. EG: If you are going to pull sh**, you may as well do so in Juarez than in EP where you're much less in your criminal element.
Seems like that made a lot of sense to me. I am sure that is not the full, 100% explanation, however, I am sure that likely there is some truth to it. It is amazing that the two with such different sets of circumstances are so near one another.
