I prefer Las Cruces over El Paso.

That's one of my favorite things about West Texas/New Mexico. Living in the Bay Area is beautiful, but everything you want to do, there are hundreds of people who want to do it too. Want to get out to a quick bite to eat? Traffic. And the restaurant has a wait. Want to catch a movie? All showing are sold out for the rest of the day. Want to go on a nice serene hike? Run into people on the trail every few minutes.

I love that El Paso is a big city, but you're a half hour from solitude when you need it in any direction.

Well, I want to live in Las Cruces, New Mexico for sure.I am thinking of living in El Paso too.I like both cities.I was pleasantly surprised and pleased when I went to El Paso the 2 times I have been there.I have spent the night in both cities.I like how America's Land of Enchantment has lower property taxes but the no state income tax in Texas would be really nice also.I like the small town feel of Las Cruces. However, I really like that El Paso, Texas has a bigger and better airport that is served by Southwest.

I know it can be a difficult decision.
Depending on what you want/need, lower property taxes or no state income tax and since you like both, consider moving in the westside of El Paso which not only more liked by many but is also closer to NM and LC or just cross over the river to Santa Teresa, NM if you want to be right next to El Paso. Just a thought if you think LC is too small or too far from the "action".
