Default Neighbourhoods in El Paso

My wife and I are in our early 70s, retired university graduates, and have been considering buying a place in El Paso to escape the very cold Canadian winters.

We have been looking at the listings put on the Internet by El Paso real estate agents, and see houses in a great variety of price ranges, in areas all of which mean nothing to me.

Can anyone suggest good, middle-class neighbourhoods where we should concentrate our search? On one hand, we don't want a dirty, noisy, crime or drug-ridden slum (and all cities have them, in Canada as well as the US). On the other hand, we cannot afford a neighbourhood of mansions. We woud like 2 bedrooms, at least 1.5 baths, parking for one car and at least 1000 square feet.

I have to say the North East would be perfect for you.. it is mostly retired military out here and its quite safe. Give me an idea of the max price limit you want to spend and also what you really want to spend. I will look around some for you and let you know. I recently did a house search out here and have an idea.. Do you want something new, or something lived in? What are your medical needs? Do you need to be close to a hospital? just some basic info.. so let me know, so I can let you know.

Edk--

Do you have a price range for the home you're looking for? There are decent neighborhoods all over El Paso, and I'm renting a house on the city's west side that's probably the quietest neighborhood I've ever lived in.

A price range might help others here to offer suggestions to kind of get you close to what you're looking for.

Default Neighborhoods in El Paso

I live in the Upper Valley/West side. In a quiet, new neighborhood, close to parks and easy access to freeway. There's a lot of neighborhoods in El Paso that's quiet and safe as well. I would suggest you drive around and see where is the best place suited for you and your wife. Good luck!

The East side has several nice areas. Eastwood area off Montwood, Cielo Vista off Hawkins. The Northeast has North Hills area, and the West side has Coronado Hills, & Chaparral Park- which has many small communities of which you described. By UTEP, Kern Place has many university folks and smaller homes but a bigger price range.

This city has a varied list of neighborhoods and good realtors. Good luck.
