I dont think El Paso is most peoples idea of pretty, especially people outside the southwest, but El Paso has a unique feel that you wont find anywhere else,I would choose it over Florida. Many wouldnt but I would.

I really like how they try and keep the area around the freeway with natural vegetation. It looks so much nicer than concrete or xeriscaping. My hats off to whoever is behind that.

Is El Paso pretty?
There isn't a simple yes/no answer. It's too subjective. But like any sizable city, there will be parts of town that are worn out or run-down and others that are upscale and attractive.
If the question is asking about the El Paso area, then that's also subjective. I happen to like the desert and mountains. The almost continual blue skies make the occasional cloudy day a nice contrast, rather than a dreary commonplace experience.

I am with you on the virtues of cool landscaping around the freeways / interstates holmes.
Albuquerque had a big freeway "eye sore" in some respects of its own with absolutely no landscaping whatsoever in the Big-I area where so much of its out-of-town traffic rolls through. However, they approved millions to landscape that area, and when complete, it should look really nice.
El Paso could line I-10 for much of the way with big palm trees (which ABQ can't do) and that would look really neat. There is plenty in terms of native plantings and vegetation as well - that is unique to the West Texas moderate and arid climate - that could be used very extensively.

So true Enjoy.....El Paso needs to add landscaping monies to their bond issues for the freeways. The mayor of Albuquerque met with the Gov of New Mexico and they decided to split the cost of landscaping the freeways up there. Every 2 years the people vote on bond issues for roads, parks, mediums and freeway landscaping and it always passes like 75% for and 25% against.
So i know there are alot of important issues facing EP but if i was the Mayor (hint hint) i'd meet with Gov Perry and see about state monies to slowly enhance the freeways in EP. Loop 375 is beautiful on the east side so i wish we could do that for all of EP.

First off, 6 FOOT, did you see the most recent El Paso, Inc.? It has an article with Rick Perry in it after a recent visit to EP, along with an interview. It seems that he is at least a little better perhaps at focusing on EP than some past governors were.
As for 375, you are right, that is a beautiful loop and should be a standard...in ABQ, I think the I-40 and Coors interchange is equally beautiful and should be a standard as well.

Start a group, consisting of business and property owners, and other concerned citizens, and begin the brainstorming process. I can't say specifically what the City needs to do without taking a closer look. My opinion of what I saw was a general impression about the entire trip through the area on I-10 from west to east.
If the rest of the city is much prettier as everyone says it is, then let the beautification process of the I-10 corridor begin!!

Hey Everyone.
I'll be driving back through EP next week, this time from east to west. I'll try taking the 375 north loop where it joins back up with I-10 near Canutillo. How does this sound?
