Default Besides Downtown....I think El Paso is doing pretty good..

I admit, im a "cruizer", my wife jokes with me, that i can never go anywhere without taking the "scenic route" [lol] anyway....driving around town regularly, id say were doing pretty good, the westside is beautiful, all the way from utep to Canutillo, we have nice restaurants, the outlet, Sunland Park Mall, on the eastside, i dont even have to explain, the place is booming, even the often overlooked big bad n.e, is starting to shine, so overall [development wise]were doing pretty good!!!! Foget all naysayers, i think we deserve a pat in the back!

That there's any progress in El Paso is reason enough for a pat on the back. Communities have to have people with vision. Thankfully, some folks in EP have displayed that and have done something about it.

Thats good news that El Paso is a bustl'ing community even during a recession sort of speak, I think that previous bond issues along with the Fort Bliss economic infusion to the areas infrastructure keeps things moving right along and their more progress on the way coming to downtown Thomason General, Texas Tech Medical School and UTEP.

Yeap i read this past week about the city council is using the last of the bond issue monies as they've spent alot on Park and Library and Zoo improvements over these last 6 years or so. They just approved a new libray on Viscount and the new soccor complex on the west side although city rep Byrd wants them in the west downtown area.

I wonder how all the Zoo renovations and expanions is coming along??

I think they should spread the wealth when it comes to overall subsidising a whole city with progress, in the old days it always use to be the westside that would get all the nice stores and pretty buildings till the eastside re evented itself but the NE and the Valley have always gotten the bone.

And that zoo, what would really be accomandating would be if someday they would build a really nice aquarium with all sorts of sea life and creatures to compliment the expanded El Paso zoo, I was going to say tear down Hugo Myer Field but that will spawn a riot.

Hmm with the downtown revitalization plan going on, are there any plans for future high rise buildings for downtown or anywhere in El Paso. I thought I had read somewhere that a new hotel might be built next to the Chase Bank but who knows. I personally would really like to see Downtown EL Paso expand and its skyline change dramatically. It does have a bright future ahead.

Actually there are no plans at the moment for any future high rises, some talk has surfaced on and off about a hotel to be built across the street from the Abraham Chavez Theater, if and maybe an arena ever gets off the ground.

With all the renovations currently going on, the Mills, the Plaza, Double Tree Inn, and soon to be renovated the Blue Flame building, all these buildings need to be renovated and occupied way before any investors or developers give downtown El Paso a second look.

On the horizon El Paso will have a new eight story Federal court house next year, now this building is actually taller in height per floor than your average eight story building it looks more like ten or eleven stories high.

Then during this summer ground will be broken for the new ten story Childrens Hospital next to Thomason General Hospital which by judging the architectual rendering of this new building, it will also be one of those super high floor buildings, when completed it will be at least twice the height of the eight story Thomason General, and one more building pending financing approval for the third building at Texas Tech Paul Foster Medical School, that building been the biggest of the three at 200,000 sq. ft, will probably be about seven floors.

What kind of busnesses are in downtown El Paso at the moment that could expand,
Is Continental National Bank still there? El Paso needs companies that will invest and expand, gone is the support of banks like El Paso National the State National and Southwest National, these banks provided El Paso with alot of financial support when they use to be locally owned.
