What is there to do downtown in El Paso,do people normally walk the streets, are there little shops and restaurants?
How is the zoo?I saw admission is only $5 dollars so I will check it out in May. I dont see too much mentioned about Juarez on here,do people in EP usually go into Juarez for the day,how easy is it to get around to the nicer parts of Juarez,I've been once but I only walked a couple blocks into the city. |

As long as you are not in downtown El Paso, or Juarez at night, alone, you should be okay. The unattractive truth here is that neither place is safe at night. As for the Zoo... if you've been to one anywhere else, you won't be impressed with El Paso's Zoo.

It's too bad because Ciudad Juarez used to be one of the tourist attractions, why people would come to El Paso. El Paso is not a bad town for a vacation, in fact it's good if you're wanting to go to White Sands, Carlsbad Caverns, and other side trips, but for touristy things to do it's not really that exciting. |

There are many shops in Downtown El paso. THey have really good deals and all. There are also some good restaurants. I would advise not going to Juarez at all right now because it is currently under Marshall Law due to the drug corruption, and unless u go clubbing or to an event at the Convention Center, don't go to Downtown El paso at night

Come on people, it is not that bad. My sister and I go to clubs downtown at night and haven't had any problems at all. In fact, downtown clubs are always crowded. There are lots of things to do downtown,
El Paso Museum of Art (free) El Paso History Museum (free) El Paso Library w/ a Don Quixote exhibition (free) The Science museum Coffee places: The percolator Pike Street market Hush Gallery Restaurants: Cafe Central, if you want something fancy Azulejos @ Camino real AND lots of mexican food places (very inexpensive) |

I think our downtown is okay. It's kind of spectacular in it's own way with the view of the mountains and the way it's nestled in between them.
It's actually a bustling downtown in the day time, lots of people everywhere going here, going there, lots of stores with pretty cheap things -- where else can you find $6 jeans, things to fill your kitchen all under $1 each. At night it's kind of quiet and still, few people but it's not especially dangerous compared with other cities' downtowns. Once in a while you hear of things going on -- sometimes they find the murdered body of a homeless guy but overall it's not real violent. If you were to be downtown and your car broke down, likely nothing will happen, you wouldn't have to fear going for help, there are certainly worse places to be. I'm sure even in cities where the downtowns might be more hopping at night, there are crime problems. |
