My family and I are moving to El Paso beginning of August. I would like to know when the schools there start and which schools are the best. Thank You

Your not allowed to goto a school outside the one in your area, unless you get special permission, so where ever you live the school thats allotted to that region is the school your kids will have to attend.. unless you do a private school thing.

School starts sometime in Aug. So when you get here school will have just started.

I would check Greatschools.net and also the TAKS scores of the schools. Some are very dismal in math and science and that should be a concern.

GreatSchools.net

6-3, sometimes it just doesn't show up as links and I have no idea why. If you post the site, I can turn it into a link for you the next time I browse through here.

Thanks Jammie as i'll try again. I see you are the Mod now instead of Synopsis.

There are 3 major school districts in El Paso for those moving to the city. As the start dates and summer vacation dates are different for each.

El Paso ISD
Welcome to EPISD - El Paso Independent School District - El Paso, Texas

Ysleta ISD
Ysleta ISD - TX - YISD Home

Socorro ISD
Socorro Independent School District

Yeap it's working now !! Thanks again Jammie !!!!!!!

You're welcome.

I think Synopsis is around here, but not in El Paso. You're just stuck with me until a permanent mod is found. Bet you didn't know I've been hanging around here for a week already.

I can depend a lot on the individual child. There are kids in most all of the schools here who do just fine, most of the schools have well performing students. Some of the so-called better schools also might have more social pressures, a very large enrollment, and more crime in spite of better TAKS scores. Or they may be open campuses where the students come and go as they please, you'll never know where they might be during lunch.

Some kids can attend gang and drug ridden schools and never have a problem. There can be fights daily in a school and some kids never get into any of that.

Schools where only 30% of the students pass math on the TAKS are ones I'd stay away from because they just won't offer much of anything to the smarter kids. Once the TAKS scores get low, the schools stop teaching anything but that test. The teachers will pretty much ignore the brighter kids and concentrate all their efforts on the lower performing students because they have to try to meet the standards. The school stops having classes for the advanced kids so they can spread them about more fairly and give each teacher their fair share of sharper kids who will pass the test. The TAKS is nothing but a test showing minimal skills are met so certainly a 30% pass rate or less than 90% pass rate is pretty bad.
