Up, up and away: This time it's trash-service fees - El Paso Times

It's simply too much. El Paso's Environmental Services Department is considering raising the fees it charges for visiting the city landfill and for replacing lost or damaged trash and recycling bins.

I foresee a Future where illegal dumping runs rampant... What is next.. they are pricing El Pasoans out of El Paso.

Quote:
El Pasoans keep getting battered by increases in everything. Arguments can be made that some are necessary, such as increasing the city's fuel budget.
But when you're hit with a proposed city budget increase, higher electric and gas bills, $4-a-gallon gasoline, higher food prices, a Central Appraisal District running wild and the specter of possible school-bond issues, to name a few, the breaking point for taxpayers cant be too far off, and our taxing entities must realize that and adapt to it.

Yes, the cost of living is getting quite ridiculous here.

At some point, push is going to come to shove. $100 more here, $100 more there, another $100 here again, pretty soon it starts adding up to some real money.

I have posted on this before. The waste collection fees are a de-facto tax on the people of EP, the solid waste department collects more money then they need to operate, the "profit" they make goes into the general fund to pay for other services (i.e. police, fire, parks, etc.....). I used to work ther back in the day of 1998-1999.
