Goto Lake Charles.. see how they are still recovering from the Hurricane that hit them a couple years back.. ( still a pretty place ) but scarred bad by the damage.. why LS. cant get on top of stuff like that is beyond me. I almost moved to Lake Charles, its a nice city.. My wifes dad lives in deRidder, the reason we almost moved to Lake Charles.

I want to look at L'Auberge du Lac Casino Lake Charles (over an hour-ish then stay free at a friend's house in Houston) & see The U.S. Border Patrol Museum in El Paso & stay free with a friend in El Paso.

Then I'd say go for the El Paso trip. The weather is usually great that time of the year. The chilis are ripe --- it's a very nice time of the year here.

PS The El Paso Trip includes Big Bend Nat'l Park which I've never been inside.
went to Marfa/Fort Davis/Alpine once as a TX TECH student (2004)...left from Lubbock went to Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Roswell, Carlsbad Caverns...left from Fort Davis Home to Lubbock in 43 hrs...only 1400 miles!!
