What year did that incident happen? I used to live here in the late 80s when it held events (got quite a sunburn there too since there was no shade and I forgot the sunscreen), then I had forgotten all about it until today, so I thought, hmm, whatever happened to that place? How come nobody ever mentions it? So I googled it and found this thread.

I remember the jingle:

Let's go to the lakes
Mountain Shadow Lakes!

Mountain Shadow Lakes,
Mountain Shadow Lakes,
Mountain Shadow Lakes!

I also remember some small amusement park in El Paso with a small roller coaster and heavy metal was playing on the speakers. Forgot the name of it.

And in the early 90s the annual Street Festival was not in Downtown and NOT $15! It was at the Tigua res. and was free.
I went to their free Independence Day Weekend event there with free concerts, but it was so overstaffed + tons of security and cops that I felt really awkward and uncomfortable like I was always being watched. Maybe I got there too early or something, because it looked like there was more staff than attendees, but I only stuck around long enough to relieve myself at one of the port-a-pots.

I drove by "Lake El Paso" a few weeks ago and it is a very un-inviting place. There is a small dirt barrier with "Turn around" written near by. Later down the road, the main entrance is bored up and says that there are "Armed guards on duty". Wonder if theres any water left?

Yup, Magic Landing had some kick-butt fireworks displays back in the day. We used to live near there... They sure didn't last long though.

I went today and saw the same sign reading, "closed to public. Armed guards on duty".
If you take the entrance next to it there's another sign that reads, "sheriff dpt.property do not go cross this sign. No trespassing".
It is blocked out with barbed wire fences. If you go further down you will find a dirt road on your left that will also lead you to the lake. In paint on the road it says, "Stop. Keep out". And then there are to poles that seem to have a wire tied in between to block off the entry.
