I can't help you on the westside but if you are unable to find someone on that side of town, I can recommend a VERY honest mechanic in the NE.
Harry's Auto Repair
It is not very far into the NE and is very easy to get to. It is on Hercules just off of the Patriot Freeway.

I used All-Tech at Doniphan/Thorn once, they were professional & I didn't feel ripped off. My brother-in-law swears by Quality Auto Service -at Doniphan/Mulberry (west of Thorn) & highly recommends them even though it looks like a dumpy Juarez repair shop.
