Something to consider about the drive to and from Las Cruces to EP is that starting this summer for TWO years they (NM DOT) are gonna be widening I-10 from 2 to 3 lanes which is sorely needed but the construction headaches will be bothersome for the next couple years on that drive until completed.
thanks 6 foot. I still plan on being active around here ~ I found it to be very helpful and informative place :0) Hey, isn't it a diffrent road from el paso to las cruses then el paso to alamogordo? Or is it the same? I could be wrong ~ lol. But i thought 54 was the route between alamo and ep? Im excited to be moving soon.............can't wait to be there already!!!!! Oh and I also plan to take lots of pics!!!! Cuz i know how much I love seeing new ones LOL

Yeap it's 2 different highways and what's nice now is back in 2000-2002 NM DOT widened U.S.54 from 2 to 4 lane of divided highway from El Paso to Alamogordo so it's really nice and safe now.

Infact now you can drive from El Paso all the way to Ruidoso in 4 lanes instead of 2 like back in the 70's and 80's as NM DOT has really improved the highways all around the tourists areas in the state over the last 10 to 15 years.

Have fun!!

If you buy the older homes, which are pretty nice then you will get a very nice sized lot or if you buy any of the lots on the Cul-de-Sacs. Some of the newer homes have "El Paso-sized" backyards which means not much. We moved here late 2007 and found a house with a 1/3 acre. As for travelling. Eastlake to I-10 (or Darrington to Pellicano) to loop 375 to Ft. Bliss (I think the new gate will be off the loop).

It's nice and quiet out here and not really "far" from anything.

It could be. It depends -- the schools in this area aren't the best at least when it comes to math and science but some kids do okay. There is a growing gang problem but it's not across the board with all kids.

It depends a lot on the family and the kinds of friends they make, or how much they bend to peer pressure.

I think Horizon city sucks the cops look like security guards and there is a bunch of people from mexico getting homes and dont take care of them like sweeping their rocks, having cars dumped in from, using their fron yard like a parking lot, letting their weeds grow all over and all these people arent educated I just hope it will change but i doubt it. I hope the news come and see for themselves cuz the code enforcement people give up to easily.

Great first post Khorizon! The general opinion of most folks is that H.C. is a pretty good place to live. Maybe you just have a sloppy neighbor?
