So we do the math like this..

Mine was triple that in Carrollton, TX but then I had higher property valuation. In the end you still have to pay it, but that doesn't mean we can't complain about it

next year im planning to move to Texas, some nice homes, but i need to look at the job economy too, lol

ISD IS FOR SCHOOLS

IEP El Paso ISD
IS IEP FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION?

WHAT A HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION? CAN EVERYONE CLAIM THIS?

I did not include any exemptions.. I do believe that if you live in your house full time you can take the homestead exemption. I am not sure what the percentage or amount is.. but this link may help answer those questions.

I want to note that my house is an old house that was willed to me when my grandmother passed. It is 960 square feet home.. most new homes in El Paso are in the 150-250 thousand price range.. so consider that.. also I am on the N.E. in the EPISD school dist.. the cheapest of the 3 taxed base.. Socorro pays the highest. Most of the East side where many of the new homes are fall in that school dist. But for fun just see what the tax rate would be on a $200,000 home at the rates I gave. Also note that the home values here are still going up .94% I think it is? Someone will correct me on that I am sure.

The new .1% general exemption that was approved at yesterday's City Council meeting means the average, eligible taxpayer will see a $5,000 reduction in the portion of their home's appraised value that is taxed by the City.

Truly, considering where I moved from and where I could have ended up besides EP, I'm not complaining. It could be worse. Would be nice if they were lower, don't get me wrong! But I know oh so well that it could be a lot worse. It would help in accepting how much we pay, the way it is, a little more if I felt as if those tax dollars were being efficiently, responsibily used and dilligently looked after -- I don't have confidence that they have been in the past nor will they be any time soon.

I have a question related to this? What happens if you bought your house in 2006 when the market was high. The buyer is required to pay 3% of the total price of the house in taxes (ouch!). Does this tax only apply at the time of the sale? Or is this "sale price" considered the new home value ongoing? For example, when a neighborhood gets re-evaluated, are the taxes of the house you bought in 2006 the same as your neighbor who has the same exact house, but only he purchased his house back in 1988? Are the two houses taxed relatively the same if they are identical, but purchased at different times in the market?

On your first point, you pay the value at the time of sale. On your second point, you pay an amount that is based on the value that the appraisal authority considers to be the value of your home, irregardless of the value of your neighbors' homes. Don't expect anything, the authority usually does not care about market trends, only what they consider is the value. 'Funny how it always seems to trend up, never down.

Wow as in you think that's alot or that, that's good? Because I paid 3x that in Dickinson, Tx with a house less than twice what your is worth. My house is probably worth 125-135k in this **** market.
