UTEP graduates can't find teaching jobs here. Remember that the Recession is affecting hiring at all district schools.
If you are looking for a good job you need to live in large metropolitan areas like Dallas-Fort Worth or Phoenix. That is just the reality of life. When the economy improves in five years, try El Paso again.

This is entirely true, but you will be accused of spreading doom and gloom. The same is holding true for health care. Retail jobs such as Walmart, and other minimum wage jobs do not offer benefits, and since a very large percentage of El Paso residents don't have health insurance, hospitals run deep in the red. With the economy down elective surgeries are on the decline, and people who lose their jobs along with their health insurance do not go to the hospital as often, and if they do they have no insurance. The hospitals try to run on as little help as possible, often causing employee burn out.

Things are somewhat okay here but mostly because there's a whole lot of federal dollars being poured into the area. If they were to cut back on the military - then it's not going to be too promising or imagine if welfare/food stamps/Medicaid/college financial aid were to be cut?

Any idea if there will be any jobs near campus for a college student? I will be moving there on Monday, and will be trying to find a job close to UTEP. Maybe a bicycle store..?

There are three bike shops near UTEP: (i) Crazy Cat; (ii) The Bicycle Co., and (iii) Vinci Bike (though I think Vinci recently moved to east side). Helps to speak Spanish as much of clientele are rich FronChis.

A serious need for teachers would be good for us educators looking to move to El Paso, but this doesn't seem to be the case as researched online.
Soruces?

Things will improve, as they must. It's already beginning.
