El Paso already has a Washington Elementary (Ysleta ISD's REL Washington Elementary on the east side), so I would predict it's probably not going to be getting another one. I would think the existence in El Paso of Telles Academy, Sun Ridge Middle School, and Cielo Vista Elementary School (Cielo Vista = "sky view" in Spanish) probably make the case for some of these other names weak also. I think the Flores brothers (Ricardo and Enrique Flores Magon) were early 20th-century anarchists.

I have no clue as to who some of these people are (e.g., Ray Briggs, Willie Mier, Mona Dubroc, Delia Paez, Cleola Berry).

Anybody want to talk about this?

I'd like to see a creative name but suspect, as usual, the trustees have a short list of retired EPSID educators & ex trustees.

I'm not sure EPISD would want that name; Mountain View High in Clint ISD is outside the city limits but has a El Paso address and there seems to be a tradition in El Paso ISD of not giving the same name to high schools, middle schools and elementary schools; each campus gets a unique name. Also, there are elementary schools with El Paso addresses called Montana Vista and Sierra Vista ("mountain view" in Spanish). I think in El Paso school districts and the city try to stay away from giving places like schools, parks and streets names in English when there's already one whose name means the same thing in Spanish or vice versa (like, there's a Peach Tree Street but no Peach Street; there's a Durazno Avenue--peach in Spanish is "durazno").

In any case, it's too late to submit new names for those schools.

The High School that was going to be built in the NE on Mountain Ridge was going to be Mountain View, and they were going to be the highlanders.. but that got squashed and the school was built by fort bliss and is Chapin.

That's a great name for the new NE High School !! I just hope they (School Board) don't back out of that as all the high schools in the EPISD are named after a person . The only other thing is that Bel Air is already the Highlanders as i wish they'd choose another Mascot.

Paul H. Carlton was an EPISD board member once (in the 60s and 70s). I think he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. I bet the new elementary school near Chapin gets named for him. (Like Capt. John Chapin, he's dead and connected to the Army.)
