Just curious, but how often do El Paso schools make it to the state finals in bball? Do a lot of college players come from the Sun City?

Extremely rare as the last team from El Paso to win the state title in basketball was Eastwood High in 1976 when they had 1st team all state center 6-11 Terry White.

The boys always go farther in the tournament than the girls teams. I believe it was in 1995 when Riverside made the final 4 and i believe Montwood and Eastwood have made the final 8 several times in the 90's/00's.

I guess except for tennis and golf, it is difficult for our teams to make state finals. Don't our private schools fare better in FB and BB?

Interesting. While we are on the topic of sports...how do baseball and softball do here?

Sadly in girls sports El Paso always does terrible as they almost never get past the Permian schools in the area playoffs whether is Volleyball, Basketball and Softball.

In boys Del Valle won the 4A state title in Soccer 2006 or 2007. In baseball Socorro is always a powerhouse along with Franklin infact last year Socorro 33-2 was ranked #12 in the nation by USA Today until they lost in the final 8 i believe.

I liked what UTEP's coach Mike Price said during National Signing day that this past year was the best year of talent in El Paso HS football since he's been here.

those are definitely some positives on the football front. Do Franklin and Socorro have an annual matchup in baseball?
