Building roads and bridges is great, it will employ many and infuse the economy with money. When the projects are complete, then what?
'Seems to me those same people that receive jobs because of the project will more than likely be unemployed again. There should be a better method/use for those dollars, education being one of them.
And don't forget, once the roads are built, they have to be maintained. Guess who will pay? Taxes on fuel alone are not enough right now, imagine a time when hybrids, or electric cars are the norm. Someone's going to get taxed. 'Seems to me the money put to extend roads is like a guarantee for taxes to be paid until the roads no longer exist.
Perhaps cities should consider rail instead?
