i live in the village green apartments right of of wren and dyer .right behind Irvin high school and i got to say after reading all these posts that there is nothing to fear about ,moving to El paso. its slow boring and safe. my mother would walk with her shopping cart from the furs that used to be in the northpark mall before it close to her apartment in village green with her purse in the cart. the devils triangle is a dump so stay away from there.

That's good to hear about Village Green as i always heard it was a gangsta complex so it sounds like the owners/management is doing better.

it used to be. but as far as Ive seen the "gangstas" for the most part are just kids without any real heart.Ive lived here for 6 years now and i come and go as i please at anytime i please.the worst incident i had the entire time was when a group of kids decided they were gonna smoke weed in front of my apartment door. i couldn't believe the audacity they had to think that something like that would have no consequences . i came out the apartment and told them to get the f--- out of here and they scattered like sticks in the wind and i haven't seen hide nor hair of them ever since. the new management has done some renovations like changed the name to Amberwood apartments , new paint job, night security, its also switched to a low income housing no income over 19,000 a year. this wouldn't be my first choice to live but i think it gives a general representation of what neighborhoods are like in the northeast . aside from the income restrictions its almost similar to the other places. i lived in Patriot apartments before here and that place was great. i would definitely recommend living there. no restrictions, clean, new, safe ,close to I-10 . real nice.

I'm an Army Spouse from Fort Bliss and I can truly say it is a magnificent place to live. We have lived in the area for over 10 years and love it. There is crime no matter where you live. I did read a report where some business owners were concerned that soldiers and/or their children are the cause of the crime in the area. I don't think that's the case. Once you get to Fort Bliss/El Paso, get involved in the community on and off post. Most of the people I have met are not affiliated with the military and I have created some great friendships and learned so much about the history of El Paso. It's all what you make it. There is information available specifically for spouses. You can PM me for more info

thanks ILoveElPaso! I totally agree it is what you make it, and were pretty excited about the move :0)..............thanks!

I have been here before and found the information so useful! We are heading to Fort Bliss this summer....will be down there next week house hunting and we are trying to weigh the pros and cons of living in the NE vs the West. Where would you choose to live and why? Where do the majority of military live? Where do people seem to be the happiest? Strange last question - but thought I would throw it out there!

west side is a good area ~ older homes, bigger yards etc. More 'established' I guess you'd say. East side is newer homes, and I think there is probably more military in the east side neighborhoods. As far as where people seem to be the happiest ~ thats subjective! We are moving to Horizon City (farrrr east) and are going to be deliriously happy (lol) my point is that you can be happy where ever you chose so long as you determine to be! Just check it out when you get here. We got more house for our dollar in Horizon City, and DH doesn't like to live right around base, so that is what works for us. Good luck and welcome to El Paso!

Everybody likes the west ....but i like the Northeast which is on the east side of the mountain as that's the side to see the sunrise as the west side is the sunset side and for me i'm all about seeing the early morning sun.
Northeast has new neighborhoods, parks and and plenty of shopping, William Beaumont army hospital is there and your right next to FT. Bliss. They're even building a freeway from Northeast to the New Ft. Bliss (Spur-601) which will make the commute even faster.
Best areas are mostly north of Transmountain rd.
