I don't know about you all but I think the upper East is the "new" Westside, so to speak. The new developments off the 375 all the way to Montana Vista....woah. New schools, new hospital, new developments on Fort Bliss.....IDK just my opinion.

Yes the west side is nice but with all those niceties comes more traffic congestion, more crime, too hurried a pace. Oh, and by the way, have you been out to Horizon to see the nice homes? They're just as nice as and a heck of a lot more affordable.
I prefer the laid back quiet evenings of Horizon City. Drive down any street in HC after sunset and you'll be amazed at how peaceful this city is. Extremely low crime rate, too. It's a rare occurrence to not see, either a HC cop, State trooper, or a county Sheriff any time you travel through town.
If I want to "enjoy" the west side, I can be there in 25 minutes, tops (excepting rush hour)!

As a matter of fact, I have noticed that there are El Pasoans that were in the military :0) Not sure what that has to do with my thread???? Thanks for pointing it out though As far as books, I find talking to actual residents on this forum much more informational than a book on el paso would be. But, again, thanks for the suggestion. Toodles!

A few more questions
Hello. I have read every thread in the post initiated by MrsRobinson73 and the answers have been great, in fact, I feel like I am there... It gave me a lot of insight on El Paso, where things are located, traffic flow, etc.
However, I have a few more questions.
95% chance that my DH and I will be stationed in Ft Bliss late summer to early fall. He is career Army, I have only been an Army wife 3 years. I grew up an AF brat though.
He is currently in Iraq.
Neither one of us likes a long commute, or likes to sit in traffic. I am not sure if he wants to live on base or if there will be any openings. I understand they have built or are building new base housing for Sr NCOs.
questions:
#1 What is so bad about living on base?
#2 If we live on the NE side, what is the commute to Ft Bliss?
#3 Are there any private Christian/Catholic schools on the NE side? Where is
the best one located?
#4 What is the zip code for the NE side near FT Bliss?
#5 I am an RN. What side of town is the County Hospital on? Prefer to work
in Trauma Centers.
Those are my main concerns. I have lived in TX 30 years so I am use to TX, granted there is a lot of humdity in South Tx but all of the other issues- language, taxes, cookie cutter communities stacked on each other, living it right now.
Also, I notice a lot of people say El Paso is the 3rd or 4th safest US city, somewhere in the top 5 anyway, but I can't find any recent data to support that
We will just be staying the duration of his assignment so we are not interesting in buying a home. However, we would like a yard for our toddler and dog.
Thanks in advance.

#4 79904 lower and 79924 upper in NE.
#5 Thomason hospital which is in central el paso.
