If $52 Million isn't enough, taxes will pay for Asarco cleanup - El Paso Times

Should tax payers help pay for the clean up at Asarco?? I have missed feelings about that.

The El Paso gov't should act fast to get it funded from the stimulus bill. If cleaning up Asarco and redevoping the site isn't a major job producing stimulus project I don't know what is.

Asarco should be made to pay the entire cost of cleanup even if it goes over the $52 million they estimate it at...

However, even if it does cost more and Asarco doesn't pay for it, I am more than positive that the city/county/state will be able to obtain funds from the Federal level (such as the EPA) to make up the difference.

I'm not too worried about it. Plus, cleanup probably won't even begin for a few years anyway...

If the company who created the mess is still in business, then they are 100% responsible for the cost, not matter what it is. Why burden the people of other cities/states for something they were not responsible for?

The stimulus bill? That is my wallet, and unfortunately, my kids wallets. No thanks!
