i think probably the bp, would be against that, it would obscure the view of our cousins crossing the border, they would be hiding behind beautiful mesquite trees by i10, hey it might even provide shade in the summer, yay!

El Paso could have purchased some cool rides from Six Flags Astro World when they closed a few years ago. Many of the rides went to other cities, some even out of the country.

Eucalyptus trees...

A row of eucalyptus trees the length of the "eye sore" would fix that. Eucalyptus trees grow very tall, and are huge. But then you would have to water them.

My El Paso Texas Wishlist:
1. Bring Downtown back from the dead (and all that it implies)
2. Higher paying Technology jobs (not just the ones associated with manufacturing or military type jobs)
3. Sense of community pride (clean up that f'up yard!!!)
4. Positive forward thinking Council Members (and all that it implies)
5. More homegrown business less big box chains
6. This list is a work in progress and more to come

Sounds good to me, but I would add landscaping to cover the "eye sore" as well.

How about a nice mall or shopping complex out in Northeast along the Patriot freeway and McCombs and also an overpass there at McCombs to extend the Patriot Freeway farther north towards New Mexico.
Also like to see Franklin, Chapin and Jeff all get their own football stadiums.

El Paso needs:
Better Grocery Stores (ex. Market Street, Central Market, etc)... the type of stores that you can buy cooked meals at!
A higher end department store.. Nordstrom? There's money here and it baffles me that a city this size has lame stores.
A trendy and hip area in which there are trails, loft apartments, townhomes, shops, and plentiful dining options... the kind of area in which one can spend an evening and walk around everywhere.
A professional sports team.
More golfing options.. the place I go to is always packed.
More churches. I dont think I've been in a place with such a lack of churches lol
A La Madeline Cafe.. I miss my parisien sandwiches. A Chicken Express would be good too since I miss their sweet tea.
A China Town would be nice.
A 24 Hour Fitness.
There should be a ban on all these gates the homes have around here. Good lord I've never seen so many gates in the U.S.
A streetcar or trolley?

What I take from this post is that El Paso is getting more, and more external influences, which is a good thing.
The city has been complacent for years, not much changes. Yes, the city continues to grow, but not progress. After almost 30 years (at least since I've been aware), the more influx of residents El Paso gets, the more those "wish" for things they had where they came from. This does not always translate into change, but people do listen.
Re 24 hour fitness... ! Also, streetcar/trolley... El Paso used to have them, I remember all the sparks as a kid. I think El Paso has them mothballed somewhere, they should refurbish them and bring them back to life as San Francisco did.

6. An Alamo Drafthouse ( Alamo Drafthouse :: Main Page)
7. Go ahead with Ascarate Park Renovation
8. A resturant at the top where the trolley sits (space permitting)
9. IMAX theater
10. No NFL team please...ELP is Dallas Cowboy country
