I don't mean in dollars but in emotional expense. How would you feel if you were at the other side? Wouldn't you feel helpless and perhaps a bit resentful if a foreign country built a decorative wall to shut you out from view? That's exactly the problem. People NEED to see the truth, they NEED to know how bad it is over there so that the plight of families who live there won't be forgotten... and not just "covered up" for aesthetic purposes. Especially now more than ever we need to be united instead of devisive with our neighbors to the south.
That is the thing, there is nothing we can do about improving that area since it sits in another country. It's up to the Mexican government to make that area look better and provide a better image for the hundreds of thousands of travelers that drive by. There is nothing wrong with making the drive trough I-10 more aesthetically pleasing, if you want to look at those homes you can do so by traveling there or drive trough Paisano Street. I also see a big problem with travelers only getting to see one of the worst areas of Juarez without seeing the real super modern nice ones as well so they can see a complete picture of our sister city. Don't you think that Juarenses would like to show Americans their whole city and not just one of their poorest neighborhoods. I know I would and many Juarenses would, you know why? Because eventhough I was born in El Paso I lived my first 13 years in Juarez before finally moving to the states and still have some relatives there.
