Well when I travel in Texas or New Mexico, people have heard of El Paso and usually they have nothin gbut bad things to say about it.

When I travel anywhere else I usually have to pull out a map or draw Texas and point to them where El Paso is. Either that or I have to tell them that is where Glory Road happened
It's funny sometimes cuz people usually confuse El paso with Midland or Odessa, which is sad.

Most people either think of El Paso as the El Paso in the old Marty Robbins song. Lately the first thing that seems to come to mind is the cartel shoot-outs they think are going on here.

People who have actually been here once or twice seem to have either a pretty good opinion or a pretty bad opinion of it. Some only drive through on I-10 and didn't think it looked too good and some ask what I'm doing living here, but others, especially those who spent time here in the military seem pretty favorable to it. It's hard to predict who of those who have come here will like it and who won't. Some people I thought would like it, didn't like it at all, others who I thought might not did like it.

LOL This should be an interesting thread. A post from a couple of days ago really took me by surprise.....saying he/she had "heard" that all the teachers here taught in spanish - like, no English spoken here? Mind boggling.

On the other hand, I am originally from KY and "they" still wonder if we have paved roads here, if the main transport is on horseback, and that wild west Doc Holliday fights are still a daily occurence. Hey you guys, it took a lot for me to admit that, but be rest assured, I left KY 41 years ago this coming June and am not of that mindset.

It amazes me that people have no idea where El Paso is, that we are not considered west TX or even a part of the United States.

What I think is SOOO SAD is that a HUGE part of the problem lies in the "first impression" of El Paso. Most of the people who I talk to, who say it is a bad place, have only ever driving through and seen what you do on I 10 ~~which is not very "asthetic"................I just can't imagine why there can't be some sort of "project" to "beautify" that section of the freeway. If El Paso didn't have such an UNFAIR bad rap just from driving through, it would be great! I mean, if you dont' like El Paso, thats fine! Thats your choice! I just want people to give it a chance first and not base it off the free way, ya know?

Everyone knows that one only has one chance to make a first impression. For many, that means driving through, or to El Paso, and not having an asthetic freeway hurts El Paso.

Most interstates don't exactly show the best side of a city. Could someone post a couple of pics along I-10 to show what you're talking about?

BTW, my first knowledge of El Paso was from the Marty Robbins song.

I'd like to visit El Paso sometime soon to form my own first impression. I have to say I love the weather in EP. Summers are dry, lots of sunshine, and the winters aren't oppressive. Those three things alone are big pluses in my book.
