Tucson's probably the closest in terms of landscape, housing types, & standard of living

The first time I saw ELP was in 1988 when I flew in to visit my fiance. I didn't know what to expect but my first impression (airport to downtown) was that it had a gritty western feel and looked like the type of town that would get nuked in a movie.

IMHO, I think El paso looks better than Tucson.
But for some reason, Colorado Springs reminds me alot of El Paso. I'm guessing because Colorado Springs has mountains in its backyard as well.

I think most people would agree Tucson is a much prettier city. El Paso does have a gritty western tattered feel to it. Tucson, is a bit more cache, more scenic. I think it more diverse economically. I heard people say El Paso is depressed because it is on the border.

I don't see how one thing has to do with another. I have never heard anything similar to that.

All southwestern cities resemble each other in certain parts of their respective cities, however they also have their own certain charm which is unique to each city. Thats what makes each city unique, El Paso has it's own charm, which some of it only locals know of. This is what needs to be sold to outsiders and used as an attraction....not all this Theme Parks, Riverwalks, and materialistic attractions. It's a cities inner beauty and charm which makes a city attractive.
