Default Young professional moving to El Paso

Hi everyone,
I'm a young professional moving out to El Paso from Virginia at the end of the summer. I've been lurking on this board for a few weeks and decided to post today since I know now that my move is official. I will be able to visit for about 2 days to see the area and meet people at my new job. I need to find an apartment. From what I've read it seems like west EP is the place to live. Does anyone have suggestions about certain complexes in the area? I've never lived in a apt complex before. Do people rent out small houses or mother-in-law suites? I've been searching craigslist, but haven't seen much. I don't have any other questions (yet) about EP. I've already found out where the grocery stores, gyms, ymca, churches, outdoor activities, etc. are thanks to this forum.

Looking forward to the move,
pshs_2000

Best Church: www.alfc.com
Craigslist in ELP sux: people have no interest there
Westside is the best. You can get over to the East, Northeast really quick.
Do not rent a home: Most Landlords in ELP do not take care of their rentals.
Condo or Apartment is the way to go.
Grocery: Walmart Neighborhood stores.
Gyms: Not familiar with those in ELP.
Outdoor activities: Biking on the mountain trails

What is your occupation?

Lived at Tuscany Apts., 915-581-2989, new, kinda nice, at least by EP standards.
Gym: Planet Fitness, clean and spacious, lots of equipment, though no bells & whistles that you'd see in gyms on the east coast.
Agree w/ Smooth: craigslist has not really caught on in EP.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to be working in public health. From my understanding the offices are located downtown.

Yes but they won't advertise them. That's the best kind of housing for a single professional, and you can get to live in the very best neighborhoods that way especially if you don't really like the beehive feeling of an apartment complex.

There are very charming guest houses in some of the older neighborhoods but you'll probably have to be living here first and be able to check around -- face-to-face because there are people who will rent them but they don't have to rent them and so can be particular.

Ok so try the Kern Place area. Some homes have some nice mom in law suites...very private and nicely kept.

Some of the younger folks I know who moved here tried Ryan's Mill and Ryan's Crossing or Colinas del Sol all on the westside, all near shopping (on Mesa Hills). I also know there are some brand new townhomes for rent on Belvedere just past Resler.

First of Congrats and welcome to the Sun City!!! You are going to enjoy it here. I believe there is an active young professionals group here...at least some of my single friends have been featured in the El Paso Times recently.

There are many hidden gems here. Renting an apartment or even a brief suite like stay at a hotel/motel etc. ..might be the way to start since there is many homes that are for rent that may not be on craigslist or anything like that. I have a great realtor...let me know if you need his info.

Anyhow if you have any specific questions pm me or ask us ....surely if you've been lurking you know who to be leary of...

Cheers~

Case and Associates has really great apartments. They are reasonably priced (we pay $655 for a two story townhome- 2 master bedrooms, fireplace, balcony, 2 pools, gym, playground, etc) and the properties are always well maintained compared to others in El Paso that we've seen.
