Health officials investigate two suspected cases of swine flu in West Texas - El Paso Times

The key word is confirmed. It takes a few days to get test results.

Quote:
Health officials say they are looking into two suspected cases of swine flu variant in the West Texas region.
"It will take three to four days to confirm one way or the other," Dr. Luis Escobedo, a state health official in El Paso, said Wednesday. No other details were available.
The El Paso Department of Public Health said Wednesday afternoon there were no confirmed cases of swine flu in El Paso County.

Yes and I re-posted saying that I wasn't sure if the official tests have been completed. I just know that the media was saying nothing was reported and that was not the case at the time.

I don't know if the person is from here or from Mexico. And now high school sports are being cancelled. Tamiflu is pretty much on shortage and hand sanitizers are going fast. I don't know if this is all hype or if it really is a serious threat. But for the safety of my kids, I'm taking extra precautions. Better safe than sorry, me thinks.
The problem I see is that there is so much panic -- people are going in to be tested for the least reason -- there are no cases here yet, and so far no Americans have died from this, the disease appears to actually be mild enough. So, everyone runs out and gets tested before the disease arrives here, certainly there will soon be a shortage of the test kits available even if manufacturers work 24 hours a day to produce them, the demand must be incredible.

And what good is a negative result today? Of course most people will be negative, and then they'll breathe a sigh of relief believing they're safe. Then the virus actually does hit here, it'll be difficult to be tested for one and many people might not realize that their negative test could become a positive one overnight.

What I find interesting is that what the media is reporting is not what the CDC is telling health care professionals. But oh well.

unfortunately the media isn't always the best source of information. They report what someone TELLS them to report. You just gotta keep that in mind............
