Are people in El Paso patriotic Americans?
I've heard that people in El Paso are not really that proud to be americans. Is that true? Is there a lot of patriotism among El Pasoans about America as it is in the rest of the country?

A lot of them aren't Americans and that's why at many high school games you see so many people sitting there when the national anthem is played or at any events where people should stand and honor the flag.
The people who are patriotic are often very patriotic however, this is also a military town.

Wow. I have never been to any sporting event where 100% of the people did not stand up to honor the flag. As a matter of fact, at most games, if someone does not remove their hat, you will see a ton of people yell at them to remove it.
You see a lot of flags around town. Parades are very popular here. Ft Bliss is well supported. While tEl Paso isn't strictly a military town, all military people are welcomed anywhere in the city. There is not a "military part of town." The NE used to have a lot but more and more military people are moving to the far east and to Horizon.

What happens, is because we are a border town and have a high number of Hispanics here, people are quick to categorize the whole city. If they see one Mexican flag or one Hispanic not being patriotic, all of the sudden it's the whole city and not an individual thing. All of a sudden it's "El Paso culture" and not an individual thing. El Paso is a great patriotic town. I'm not talking about lip service either. El Pasoans are very quick to volunteer and help each other. El Paso proved that during the massive floods a few years back. While other towns would have had looting and people taking advantage of each other, El Pasoans were volunteering in mass numbers to fill sandbags, donate time, and support each other.

Like I said, there are some patriotic Americans here and there are some who are not that at all:
Depiction of U.S. Flag Graffitied | KTSM.com | El Paso · Las Cruces · Juarez
Driving past the La Hacienda apartments in the lower valley, it's hard to miss a large sign that reads "God Bless America," but if you look a little closer, you will see what some El Pasoans are calling a disgrace, black spray paint and graffiti across the United States flag.
Some residents at the apartment complex say they are not surprised to see the vandalism, but they do take offense to it and wish someone would clean it up.

No sense in screaming lack of patriotism because some people show pride in their Mexican ancestry with Mexican flags, red, white and green on their houses or things of that sort. You wouldn't jump on someone of Irish ancestry for giving their kids Irish first names.

One of the biggest American flags in existence was put up in El Paso, at the corner of Diana and Gateway North in Northeast at the Old Glory Memorial.

Yes
I grew up in El Paso and I was very patriotic living there and I was the typical first generation American as were most of my friends, and almost all of my cousins.

We can all point out individual incidents where an El Pasoan wasn't patriotic. Those are individual incidents. Overall, and the majority, this town is very patriotic.

Happy Memorial Day everyone. Make sure to take a moment to pause and reflect over the sacrifices many great Americans made for this country.
