lol....... gotta have my GREEN :-) I refused any house that didn't have grass at the least. I can't imagine my poor kids not having a real live yard to live in LOL. But, it makes sense. If your living in the "southwest" by choice ya gotta figure you like the desert landscape, and would like rock yards. I didnt' have a choice, this is where uncle sam told us to go, so here we are ~ but, i do like it here, and having my grass yard makes it much better :-) But, hey to each there own!

You could do what they do in Phoenix and paint your yard green.

Because of the river and irrigation and a high water table in some areas, there are some areas of El Paso that are very green, as green as you could want them. El Paso isn't only desert like some people think, it's also got lush farmland but that unfortunately is going very fast being paved over and filled up with gated communities.

Yes, for pets and kids, a small backyard would suffice--but I refuse to mow and water any more than that, LOL!

I have never been out to Horizon City. I'm going to have to drive through there on my way home one day just to see what it's like.

Glad you're enjoying it there. EP is a neat place, except for the traffic!

People visiting, or new to the area, will go "UGH, this is what they consider "a yard".....here?!" And I respond, Yeh, isn't it beautiful!
Yes, LOL! You can usually tell who moved here from either the Midwest or the greener areas of the country. My neighbors are from Chicago. While their front yard is desert landscaping, it has so many desert plants in it that you can hardly see the rock and gravel!

Even in Midland, some of the new construction that's going up has rock landscaping in the front. Once people get over being horrified, they'll realize that it makes a lot of sense in a city that often gets less than 10 inches of rain a year--if that much.

79902 has the best location, most diversity, neatest architecture and nice people.

79902 consists of Sunset Heights, Arizona Rio Grande and Kern Place.

Kern Place isn't cheap so for these purposes, we can leave that out.

Arizona Rio Grande includes the El Paso High area right north of downtown. After walking the area days and nights I just bought a house there. Friendly people and the cost per sq ft is lower than anything else west cept for Sunland Park which is not a nice area. The mix of people is nice, some students, downtown workers, some connected with the nursing school and quite a few older folks.

Definitely not cookie cutter houses- many have charm - some great old rock walls too. In addition you can find a property with a super-view of downtown.

I've lived in Sunset and Kern too -was neighborhood assn president in Sunset, and I like all those places.

Gas is currently down from a year ago, but as gas prices rise .. and they will its better to live closer to work, school entertainment and that will make these areas a great investment.

I think the houses of Sunset Heights are very beautiful. Cool big old houses built with a lot of character.
