Default Horizon City

Whats out there? My husband and I are PCSing to Ft Bliss but I'm leaving for there from PA in 4 days. Theres a house that we're absolutely in love with but its in Horizon City. What distance is my DH looking at for commute? How far away will we be from grocery stores, shopping areas, and a place for necessities? I love the house but I don't know if the distance is really worth it.

Distance is fine. There's plenty of stores up 375.

Distance will only impact your husband, and depends on where he must report to each day since "Ft. Bliss" is spread out over a large area of the city, but at least it's all on the east side along with Horizon City. Otherwise there are plenty of easy accesses to shopping from Horizon City.

Not sure about Horizon as I haven't been out there since...Sunday

But I do know its a good 30 min from Fort Bliss (I work there). The eastside is the fastest growing part of town and horizon is right down the street (freeway) from it (10-15 min). Stay on I-10 and you'll find everything you need.

Horizon is a great community on the outskirts of El Paso and about a 20 min. commute to ft. bliss. My husband makes this commute everyday. With the right realtor you can find a home in this area for about $70 sq. ft., give or take. My daughter and her husband just bought a foreclosure off desert sun. How do I know so much about this area, I’m a full time realtor with over 30 years of ft. bliss, El Paso and Horizon community area experience. Another area you may want to consider is much closer to the base and fairly new on the west of the Patriot freeway. This area is much closer to shopping and Hwy 54.

Yvonne Russell, realtor

Is anyone aware that the area at the end of East Lake across from the O Rielly's Auto Parts is zoned for commercial use and now Hunt Properties wants to rezone it for residential development. From the information I have obtained they are planning to build 800 sq ft single car garage dwellings or possibly section 8 housing. Most housing in the area are at least $100k. If hunt properties get their way the property value in the area will go down not to mention the possible rise in criminal activity. If any one is interested in trying to stop this from happening please send me an email armandster39@gmail.com There is a meeting with the developer tonight to further discuss this issue.
