We lost an old tree last week to the winds. Looking at the roots they seem very shallow and couldn't penetrate the pre-subdivision desert soil.

I look forward to the spring winds. It's one of the few change-of-season indicators we get down here. In the summer we get threatening clouds and flash lightning but no rain. An oldtimer remarked that they were empties deadheading back to Deming for another load of sand.

Another 1-2 weeks and I'll swap from gas-heater to swamp cooler. Last year I did it too early.

The wind is nothing in El Paso.

Try this for wind: Sheridan, Wyoming Keep in mind 50% of the year temperatures are freezing!

That's true. People in El Paso who haven't seen a blizzard really don't know what wind is, a little dust is nothing compared with 6 feet snow drifts and blocked roads -- but we can still complain, wind is about the only less than perfect weather condition we have here.

We'll they're forecasting a chance of thunderstorms for mid-week at we'll also be looking at our first shot of severe weather too. Better than the wind but we'll see.

But snow is just frozen water. Sand blowing at you like a sandblasting machine is much worse. Let me know if people in the North can't keep their house somewhat dust free day to day.

Thats a good point. There always seems to be a layer of dust on your furniture.. even if you dust daily. Wonder how that effects breathing? I have been far more congested here... something I never really thought about until you raised the point.

I'll take that wind over a blizzard up here in the Northeast where the snow piles on you, wires go down, no power, cars stuck, cant feel you fingers or toes, driving in slush!! Like I said - I'll trade you anytime and in 3 years I will be there in EP enjoying that wind!!!

I prefer dust storms over blizzards also. Breathing frigid air hurts my lungs more than a little healthy dirt.
