This begs the question: Under ONE ownership???

Some of the restaurants that have been in the same location have changed both ownership and name over the years. For example: Leo's Mexican started as a single restaurant in the downtown area in 1946, and then expanded to numerous sites around El Paso, all the branches family owned at one time. There are several remaining according to their web page.

There are others in the older parts of El Paso that have been in the same location for years as owners and names changed.

Forti's Mexican comes to mind for a more popular one in the same location where it's always been.

Prior to 1968 it was known as TONY'S PLACE. Antonio Flores was the founder in 1927. So this restaurant could well be the oldest to operate within the same extended family.
Quote:
In June of 1968, Antonio and Juanita’s daughter, Lilia F. Duran and her husband, John G. Duran, took over Tony’s Place and renamed it L & J Cafe. The letters “L’ and “J” are for the first initials of Lilia and John. They are also for the initials of their children Leo, John and daughter Lilia (Becky). After John G. Duran’s passing away on December 11, 1987, third generation son, Leo Duran and his wife, Frances, assumed the responsibility of maintaining the restaurant’s legacy and continue to do so this day. Leo‘s mom Lilia, continued to lend her guidance and support until her passing in March of 1999.

Any time you're in a restaurant that's either old or in an old building ask some of the longer time employees about the ghosts.

It's beside Concordia Cemetery.
