I wonder why the Independent Party didn't renew its registration?

I'd be willing to bet that (Democratic) Maryland invalidated the party at 12:01 AM on the expiration date. I'm sure they wasted no time whatsoever leveraging this disguised form of voter intimidation.

Don't get too excited. If you don't affiliate with a party, you'll be recorded as unaffiliated. That's what most Independents prefer, anyway, to be unaffiliated. They didn't register as Independents to say they were members of the Independent party, they registered as Independents to say they didn't want to affiliate with any party.
