For Republicans who keep saying that they "won" in 2010. I don't think they understand reality.

The electorate of 2010 was vastly different from the electorate of 2008, meaning it was older, married, suburban, rural, whiter, etc. The electorate of 2010 was made up of more voters who vote Republican because fewer people voted in the 2010 elections than in the 2008 elections.

A win is a win, but the 2010 elections weren't the "voters" saying we want the republicans, that was mostly democratic leaning voters staying home for the midterms making the 2010 electorate older, married, whiter, etc.

If the 2012 electorate is more like the 2008 electorate, and there is high voter turnout, then republicans will lose big, because those voters are younger, single, urban, more racially diverse, etc and they vote for democratic candidates.

So its all about turnout if Republicans can depress voter turnout which they are trying to do and make the electorate older, married, and whiter, they'll do well, if the electorate is more like 2008 and there is high voter turn out Republicans will do poorly.

It is not difficult to say what the republican platform is, what is difficult to understand is some of the ideas behind the platform.

First, they want to cut taxes on the wealthy. They'd cut their income taxes, capital gains taxes, estate taxes, and corporate taxes, and then to pay for those tax cuts, they'd increase taxes on everyone else. This is the truth. There is no way to pay for their tax cuts without either blowing up the deficit which they don't care about or raising taxes on everyone else. This is their plan.

They don't want to cut military spending at all, yet they do want to cut social security, food stamps, medicaid, and medicare benefits and basically end medicare for those under a certain age.

They have zero interest in addressing the 50million Americans without health insurance.

They don't specifically concern themselves with the issues facing the poor in this nation. In fact, I can't think of one republican policy position that is aimed at poor Americans.

They undocumented immigrant bash. They want mexicans racially profiled and checked to see if they belong here.
They want them to self deport whatever that is, want them rounded up, thrown out of the nation, they blame them for ruining the nation, etc.

They want to ban mosques from being built in certain areas, They are banning sharia law, they want muslims racially profiled, they want them watched and controlled, a republican congressman held hearings to that effect. Should we monitor and track muslim Americans because they are muslims.

They don't want anything done about the threat of climate change.

They don't want evolution, mexican American history that they don't deem appropiate taught, they want "pro-American" history taught, and they want religion to be injected into public government run schools.

They support vaginal probes for women getting abortions by force of the government.

I could go on, but these are all Republican posititons. I have no idea what is in there that appeals to anyone, but that is what they plan to do.

2. Civil Rights - Racism no longer exists; If you don't succeed it's ONLY because of your lack of effort. Keeps us from an issue we know nothing about.
3. Abortion - Men know what's best.
4. Foreign policy - If you're not with us, you're against us.
5. Economy - Give rich everything, they will trickle down. It has never worked but we've got nothing else.
6. Drugs - just say no.
7. Crime - Nation-building and international terrorism are higher priority; To keep taxes low, tell those criminals not to commit crimes; Neighborhoods must police themselves; Those people are inherently bad, it's in their genes.
8. Government reform - Do only when Democrats are in charge in the White House. When this happens, obstruct. When Republican in office, lie and protect the rich.
9. Budget - Complain about deficit and spending only when president is a Democrat; Otherwise, run up the deficit and spend like hell as warmongerers.
10. Welfare and Poverty - To hell with those folks. They are inherently flawed, inferior, and lazy. Their predicament is strictly because of their own behavior.
11. Technology - This benefits CA and silicon valley so don't support it. Instead, hire foreign labor on the cheap to maximize corporate bottom line and executive perks. Pretty innovative, huh?
12. Immigration - oppose it, but not too much. Use illegals to do our yards, clean our toilets while paying them dirt cheap. Do nothing about illegal immigration because the money can better be used to fund wars abroad. Complain what we didn't do when a Democrat is president.
13. Environment - Drill, drill, drill. To hell with the environment. The only green I care about is in my wallet.
14. Government - want it small, so there's no accountability. We don't mind if corners are cut to get things done, even if they result in the worst oil spill in history.
15. Education - support any mechanism so that rich, privileged kids can separate from the others. Others are naturally inferior and dumber and don't deserve the same consideration.
16. Principles and Values - Prayer in schools because God is watching. God doesn't mind if we are bigots and routinely practice racism. To hell with the working and middle class. If they can't excel, it's their own fault dammit. This is God's way. "We want our country back!"
17. Taxes - we need less taxes. To hell with programs to help the poor, the elderly, the sick, and the disadvantaged. To hell with everything, just keep those taxes low.
18. Gun Control - We need more guns. The world is a dangerous place, especially since we practice discrimination. We need to be able to target practice on defenseless wild animals to keep up our skills against the savages.
19. Infrastructure - to hell with it. Why waste money on this when we've got wars to fight and nations to build? Need to "spread democacy."
20. Campaign financing. We support more money being allowed for corporations to give us money. That way we can protect their interests. Same goes for the rich. Our platform stinks enough, so we need help for the deceptive marketing.

I think that's a pretty accurate assessment. My question for Republicans is how in the world can you expect to win back the White House with this platform? It stinks.
Excellent points but all are meaningless to the Obama haters who will vote for any alternative to Obama no matter how vacuous.

That isn't the GOP platform, that is just typical Democrat propaganda out of their old play book; a truthfully, most know it these days.

Regardless of all the democrap misinformation efforts, the republicans and indies are going to turn out in droves to get rid of obama and the dem majority in the senate and all the loony tune whining as we've seen in this thread cannot and will not stop what's coming. The dems have noting left to vote FOR but but repubs and indies not only have the enthusiasm to vote for, they even more importantly have the enthusiasm to vote AGAINST.

No, they really do want to cut the taxes of wealthy people. This is not up for debate. Look at any analysis for those tax cuts and they almost entirely go to rich people.

More importantly, in order to "pay" for those tax cuts for the wealthy, they want to cut tax deductions for all other Americans. This is their plan.

There are 50million Americans without health insurance. The exchanges for the ACA healthcare bill don't take effect until 2014, thats why we still have so many uninsured Americans. It is estimated that the ACA healthcare bill will cover 30million of those 50million uninsured Americans.

Again writing the word "liberals" in every paragraph is not you making a point because it doesn't change the fact that Republicans have nothing to say about economically poor Americans.

There is a discussion about undocumented immigrants, but blaming mexicans for American's problems, openly advocating racial profiling of mexicans, not engaging in attempting to pass new immigration laws, and just a general nasty alarmist tone about the "crime" of undocumented immigrants.

These people are banning a nonexistent problem of Sharia Law, because of their prejudices against muslims.

There is that word again liberals followed by nonsense. Again climate change is real, what do republicans want to do to address this big problem? So far, their plan is doing nothing.

Survival of the fittest what does that mean?

In terms of abortion, again small government republicans want the state to have the power to force women to have a vaginal probe inserted into their body, not based on a medical need, but based on, their belief.
