Ok, I'm exaggerating, but don't under estimate the significance of this. The GOP will try to downplay it, but this is a huge impact on the voters.

The same thing was said about the US victory in the Gulf War, after which Bush had 90% approval ratings, and this occurred at roughly the same time in Bush's presidency (a few months into his 3rd year). The economy still brought him down in 1992.

You can't compare todays news with the US victory in the Gulf War. Secondly, Perot was a spoiler in the election, this is the main reason why Bush lost.

Even without Perot, Bush still would have lost to teary eyed "I feel your pain" and chronic liar extraordinaire, Bill Clinton. When Perot temporarily dropped out of the race, Clinton still had a lead in the polls. He successfully convinced America that we were in a depression, even though we were in the middle of a strong economic recovery.

And victory in an overall war is far, far more important than the death of one man. Saddam walked away unscathed yet, as previously stated, Bush's approval went to 90% and was seen as invincible in 1991. There is probably a Hitler reference we could point to as well. We still had a bloody Pacific campaign to wage.

I highly doubt it would help Obama in 2012. I still plan on voting for someone else then.

Osama Bin Laden is not dead. This is obviously a government-orchestrated hoax, just like the NASA moon landings and Obama's birth certificate.

If our economy is still crap, and gas and other prices keep rising, no one will even remember Osama Bin Ladin was killed when election day 2012 comes along.

This is exactly right. It will all come down to the economy.
