I don't care if he doesn't "grovel at the altar of Democrats"; all I'm saying is that there is no way I could vote for someone who doesn't even respect himself and his background. On the other hand, I have the utmost respect for people like Colin Powell.

It's a nice idea but ideas aren't reality and in order to get to that reality folks who haven't been/aren't treated with equality need to know that someone is looking out for their interest, that interest being, someday being treated with equality in the hopes that someday the color of their skin actually won't matter.

Except the ugly little secret is that the party that pretends to be against racism is truly the more racist group.
Is this where you dredge up the history of the Republican Party of 1860?

You do know who Byrd was......Democrat, Grand Dragon of the KKK? Not the kind of tent you're thinking about.

I forgive Byrd for what he did. His actions over the years voting for progressive legislation was more than enough to make up for that. Republicans on the other hand, continue to persecute minorities everyday with their policies.

As long as the GOP only attracts the real nutters to their cause like Allen West and Herman Cain, they will NEVER see widespread support from people of their own race. Michael Steele sounded reasonable sometime but he would also sell out for 30 shillings.

The GOP uses these people as window dressing and then seriously expect other minorities, who they care nothing about, are going to fall for this shtick?

Lucky for America that minorities are not as clueless as whites when it comes to voting

You cheering on a Klan member in your party says all one needs to say on where the dems stand on racial matters.

He was a former clan member, as opposed to the GOP which has many active clan members even up to this date. Byrd was a very old man who made some mistakes during his young days. I can forgive him because in his later life he voted for many legislation that helped the black community as an important figure in the Democratic Party.

Yeah your hero filibustered the Civil Rights act of 1964. I stand by my previous post about you and your party.
