A)What religion a candidate has is irrelevant to me. Jew, Evangelical, Catholic, Mormon, Muslim - I don't care.

B)I will not vote for Romney. Simply no way I am ever supporting a candidate who has passed a major socialist health care legislation. If he gets the nomination, I guess it'll be time to start researching the Libertarian and Constitution Party candidates. More likely than not though, there will be a Liberty movement/Tea Party revolt and some Third Party candidate will appear for me to consider.

So if Ron Paul were Mormon, you'd vote for him?
Hell yea, granted he still retained all the same political positions he currently has.

He picks a darling of the base as a running mate, crosses his fingers, and hope that mollifies enough of them?

[my guess is either Rob Portman or Marco Rubio -- both are from large swing states but Rubio's youth and the fact that he's Hispanic probably win out -- if I was a betting man I'd head to InTrade and buy a few shares of "Rubio 2012 GOP Vice Presidential Nominee"]

If Romney becomes the GOP pick, Obama wins. Romney would end up becoming the Republican version of Kerry. Republicans are generally not keen on New Englanders. Romney being a Mormon just adds to his issues.

If Ron Paul were Mormon, I'd vote for him - holy garment (underwear) and all... But I suspect Romney's
foreign policy is not a Paul supporter's cup of tea
Though, I noticed he appeared to be interested when
Paul speaks. And he has actual voiced the words "Ron
Paul is right" in public

Romney is a perfectly fine candidate if you want the
Status Quo. He's not bad to look at, he seems like
a decent man. I just don't see any passion coming
from him on any one topic.

He has no apologies - because he has no "real stands".

If Ron Paul had the exact same political stance as he has right now but was Mormon, black and from California I would still support him 100% and vote for him over any Democrat.

I hope they nominate him. He seems sensible, but probably not electable. He will not sell with enough conservatives as is (my family is conservative christian and many will not vote for anyone LDS, which they consider a cult) and if he tries to get a cook like DeMint or Rubio to lure them in, he loses just as many swing voters. Frankly, I don't see an easy in for him. However, none of the others have near the credibility with the rest of America. It will be interesting to watch. I really see no overarching strategy for the GOP except to discredit Obama and try to pin the recession on him. I don't see who wins then.

I would not vote for Obama and I would not vote for Romney. I would write a name in. Not voting for Romney would have nothing to do with him being a Mormon and everything to do with the issues.

I would vote for Paul if he was a Mormon. Heck, my family that are Mormon's are voting for Paul.

Okay...

More Than a Fifth of Americans Won't Vote for a Mormon, Poll Finds - Althea Fung - NationalJournal.com

Bad News For Mitt Romney: 22% Of Americans Won

Sic Semper Tyrannis : 20% say they would not vote for an LDS candidate

Again, I'm sorry you feel that was my intention. As a Mormon, I see these statistics quite often. If they are, in fact, correct, I think my question was a legitimate one.
and I would love to see who they polled..yes, there will be a few, some of those wouldn't vote period. I have a hard time believing 20% of those who would normally support a Republican would not vote for a Mormon.

How come it's not "religious-baiting" when you claim Romney's religion will hurt him?
Did I even say there were no Republicans that would not support a Mormon? Of course not and I have said over and over, many, especially in the south will not support one or they say they will not. Will his religion hurt him? Sure it will, but I do not believe 20% of those that would support him if he were not Mormon will not support him because he is. Many of 20% probably would not support any Republican...Saying he will have troubel because he is not exciting has nothing to do with his religion. I still feel he has more problems than being a Mormon and that is what I have said over and over. I have mentioned all the things that will hurt including Religion, but not religion alone. You are a die in the wool lib, you will pick apart or spin almost anything to your liking and this is just another case.

Well, Nita, I think you can believe the poll. It (at least one of them) was done by Gallup. They have a reputation for being reliable. I've read many of your posts and you've never come across to me as bigoted in any way, but as a Mormon, I can tell you that the contempt towards my religion is significant.
