Democrats are vocal about the state's rising debt, which grew from $13.4 billion to $37.8 billion from 2001 to 2010, according to the Texas Bond Review Board.

"The number one issue he's vulnerable on is debt," said Matt Angle, the director of the Lone Star Project, a Democratic research group. "When he took office it was zero. That goes against his message of fiscal responsibility." The state budget must be balanced by law, but the state may still incur bond obligations.

This article goes a long way to addressing some of the issues raised in the OPs link

(Update) Eighteen (18) things that critics are saying about Rick Perry | RedState

I dont think Gardisil or Texas Trans Corridor will be an issue. The debt issue in Texas may have some small impact in the primary but none in the general. beyond that while Texas has some debt, it is not out of control debt. Republicans are not saying that all debt is bad. Just that out of control debt is a killer.

"Texas Fatigue" may be an issue but in balance with "economic depression fatigue" it may not matter at all.

The general will be decided by the economy. Barak Obama's re-election has more to do with that than who he may be running against.

and can we look at the issues that could beat Obama. I really think if Christie were to change his mind (would have to be in the next month) he will get the nod and win in 2012. Otherwise my money is still on Perry. He is liked, chanrming, can raise money and appeals to more than some might think.

I thought this was supposed to be about issues that could beat Rick Perry? Yet the article is about bond debt in Texas?

Question: What state has had to build the most infrastructure in the past few years, to handle the influx of new residents?

I know they are just trying to throw everything they can at Perry.. but honestly, some of it is just so weak it's embarrassing.

Perry is establishment Republican, they work for the global elitists and likely Christie too, so they wouldn't budge on illegal immigration.

I didn't say anything about that: I asked what issues would beat Obama, this is meant for the Obama supporters, all 1/2 dozen of them, not other candidates.

Supposed to be on Perry, but looking at issues to beat Obama few are Spending, debt, taxes on business, our economy and jobs, suing states over illegal immigration, Wars, stopped off shore drilling, turned over hundreds of miles of AZ to Mexican drug cartels. Of course the news won't mention that he is a strong corporate globalist.

Issues that can beat Rick Perry, how about his own Texas debt, also telling Mexico's President Fox that he embraces open borders and that's for starters. Perry is for trucking and Superhighway in U.S. and Mexico with infrastructure. He is big on Nafta of course. He is for dream act. I just heard a conservative radio host last night say Perry is a big phony. You don't hear that from Rep. establishment of course and he is one of them. He is an elitists dream just like Obama.
