Democrats Fear New York, Nevada Losses - Jessica Taylor - NationalJournal.com

National implications, no doubt about it.
NY-9 is a district Obama won by 4 points more than the national average. NV-2 is a district Obama didn't even win despite winning nationally by 7.26%.

Special elections reveal a fickle electorate - The Washington Post

(Democrats are already blaming New York Democratic nominee David Weprin’s vote for same-sex marriage from when he was in the state Assembly for alienating Jewish voters.)

According to lefty Nate Silver, this is what Weprin needs to win/tie;

Quote:
NY09 over/under line: Weprin (D) would need about 54% of the votes in Queens precincts, 42% in Brooklyn precincts, to tie Turner (R)
Not to be - Race has been CALLED!!!

News from The Associated Press

I don't know, looks a little early to me...the dems have too much time to "find" votes.

A total and complete rebuke of obama and his terrible policies.

GOP wins in NY House race, seen as Obama rebuke

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) -- Republicans have scored an upset victory in a House race that became a referendum on President Barack Obama's economic policies.
But...I thought republicans were so, so very unpopular?

Quote:
The heavily Democratic district, which spans parts of Queens and Brooklyn, had never sent a Republican to the House. But frustration with the continued weak national economy gave Republicans the edge.
Wow! This IS delicious.

I wonder how this will be spun. The AP is discussing how orthodox Jews were angry at Weprin for voting for gay marriage. I suspect this will get heavy play.
