Yeah prayer doesn't actually do anything. It's a convenient cop out to not actually do anything constructive to fix the bad thing you're going through, but still feel like you're doing something. It hurts because it takes the initiative from YOU to fix YOUR life/situation/whatever and just throw it to your imaginary friend and hope he'll fix everything for you.

That is a sad point of view. No one said it released you of personal responsiblity in doing what you need to do, but in life there are times when you really don't have control over some things...like when it rains or doesn't. Life is full of trials that are not of your own making. If you personally don't find solace in prayer...don't pray, but don't criticize or try to take that from those that do, because a lot of folks find it very comforting.

That isn't the religion forum but, I will say this. A lot of atheists have this misconception that if you pray for something it'll magically happen and you'll get everything you want if you pray for it. That's not true at all, just like atheists also have this weird misconception that all Christians are just, pious people that can do no wrong unless something is wrong with Christianity. Not true either, as Christians are also humans that are susceptible to sin just as anyone else is, being a Christian doesn't automatically make one a saint.
Anyways, just trying to clear up common mistakes that atheists assume of Christianity. Have a nice evening
If you don't like what Perry's doing, why not just come out against it? Run on the opposite side of Christianity and prayer. That will probably work for you -- you should definitely do it.
This is just nutty to me. It's one thing to have a personal belief in "God", but to issue an official proclamation to pray for rain seems bizarre.
And this proclamation was in April. Given the recent fires in Texas, I guess praying doesn't work. How shocking.
ok, nutty to you, this has been discussed here over and over and it was almost 6 months ago. some find it nutty, others find it reassuring, and still others don't think it makes a difference but it certainly isn't hurthing anyone and has nothing to do with his ability to be Pres.
