Thompson is not laughable at all. He has a very good shot at being president. Wonder why you would think that?

Count me in as a FREDNECK!
In my ideal scenario, FDT takes the nomination, then picks Mike Huckabee as his running mate (only thing better than a Southerner on the ticket, IMO, is two Southerners!)
Then after his stunning, Reaganesque landslide victory next Nov., Thompson appoints Ron Paul as his chief economic adviser (heck, maybe Treasury sec'y or Fed chairman) then puts Tom Tancredo in charge of Homeland Security and border control.
Life in the U.S. of A. would soon be A-OK!

That's what people thought when they elected George W. Bush... twice. What makes you think Fred is going to be any different?

I heard on Laura Ingraham today that he may not announce until February. I doubt that, but if it's true he shouldn't bother. By then it'll be too late.

Or, he's saving himself possible criticism and secrets revealed until AFTER the nomination, where he'd have a better chance. If he does not announce until Frebruary, that means he was letting Republicans lose complete faith in their political chances and then wam, hit them with a dose of "hope" and you have Fred Thompson has the next Republican nominee.
Quite genius, but deceitful.

Bush is a globalist, pro North American Union, which would strip the borders away from the this country and would make the U.S. just a stopover for illegals etc. Horrible idea. If I had done my homework and realized what this man was really about I would never have voted him for president in '04. I wouldn't have voted for Kerry either. Is Fred a globalist? I think he and just about every candidate in this election, both rep and dem are pro NAFTA and NAU, with the exception of Ron Paul, who I support.

I hope he gets in soon. It will be interesting to see his effect on the poll numbers, and if he gets near Rudy.

NewToCA, I suspect if Fred Thompson hops in the race by no later than mid Sept. then he will blow away Rudy Guilani. From the various forums and just day to day people I talk to, I can't think of but a very small handful of people who are pulling for Rudy outside of the greater NY city area. Middle America and the south will be a near complete no show if he does win the Republican nomination.
