Not really, one uses the perception the opposition puts out there of a candidate to gauge just how much they don't want to run against them. Some people just don't see through all of the hoopla and instead buy into it.

I really doubt that all of the nine running for the GOP nominee think they can win...at least this time around. Some run just to increase their marketability or to try to get a lesser appointment to something.
